Since 1983, Jim has worked as a freelance mixer/recordist in film and television production. His credits include the PBS programs Frontline, NOVA, Now with Bill Moyers, and American Experience among others. He has also recorded for many programs on the Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel and National Geographic Television. He has worked as first or second unit mixer on the feature films "The Net", "The Long Kiss Goodnight", "First Daughter", "Ladder 49", "Gods and Generals", "The Shadow Conspiracy", "Martin Lawrence - RunTelDat" and "Return With Honor". He also worked as playback operator for the John Waters film "A Dirty Shame" and the Yolanda Adams music video "I Believe I Can Fly". Series and dramatic television credits include The West Wing, The Monroes, Linc’s World, Guts and Glory - the Rise and Fall of Oliver North, Homicide - Life on the Street, HBO's The Wire as well as Vice President Quale's appearance on Major Dad. He has done commercials for national campaigns by Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, HBO, ESPN, the Public Broadcasting System and CBP, Massengill, Crown Petroleum, Kelly Springfield Tires, Dick's Sporting Goods, LDWC, Whitehouse Juices, President Specialty Cheeses, Wal-Mart, Renyolds, Gulfstream Aerospace, CNN, MBNA, MTV's Rock the Vote, the National Performance Review, CarMax, labor unions, political parties and candidates for national office. He’s done regional campaigns by Ford, Chevrolet, Maryland Lottery, D.C. Lottery, Giant Food, Trak Auto, Hardy's, Safeway Stores, NBC, KYW-TV, WJLA-TV, WUSA-TV, Motophoto, Virginia Railway Express and political campaigns for numerous candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate as well as state ballot initiatives and Governor's campaigns across the nation.

Recent projects include a day as the DC unit mixer of the film "Talk to Me" starring Don Cheadle as the legendary Ralph "Petey" Greene, "We Fight to Be Free" (a film about George Washington's life for a pair of new theaters at the Mount Vernon estate), "Fields of Freedom" (an Imax film about Pickett's Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg), the "Works for Me" commercial campaign for Giant Food, a regional commercial campaign for Chevrolet, The "Jinx" Superbowl spot for Coca-Cola and spots for the national primary election campaign.

Jim has extensive practical experience with the Aatoncode production system & location digital sound recording for film, all stereo formats for production & the gathering of location sound effects as well as double system production for video. He is the owner/operator of a complete multitrack location sound equipment package with production facilities for both conventional film & television and nonlinear multitrack film & television recording. His package includes both software-based and hardware-based multitrack recording solutions,complete monitoring facilities & playback capabilities from both linear and non-linear source material.

Jim served on the Executive Board of NABET Local 15, and after Local 15’s merger with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees was a founding member of IATSE Local 487, the Mid-Atlantic Studio Mechanic’s local.
